There are very few projects that get you excited. The URBAN resource pack appears to be one of the few that manages to stir the interest of even the most veteran Minecraft players. This is because it is not just a texture resolution upscale. It is also not just a recoloring of existing textures. It is the kind of project that takes hours of sleepless nights to come to fruition. Developed by artist Aryan Nikose, the URBAN texture pack set itself on the ambitious path of completely changing how Minecraft looks, feels, and plays. It manages to make the game breathtaking. A true eye candy that a player can just sit and admire. Pushing the capabilities of the game, the artist had to resort to path-traced shaders. For this purpose, the developer chose to use BSL, a commonly available shader pack for Minecraft. It pushed BSL to its limits to accomplish something that no longer looks like a blocky game. The URBAN resource pack brings a certain degree of photorealism that is unprecedented in Minecraft. Objects and items look stunningly real, albeit with more corners and sharp edges but completely different than what they look like in vanilla Minecraft. The work done by the developer using BSL shader’s features would not suffice to make Minecraft so visually beautiful. It had to be supported by improved textures. For this reason, Aryan Nikose had to develop it using higher resolution textures. The lowest resolution available is 128x which is in itself resource demanding.

There is also a 512x and a 1024x version which is even more demanding and requires a considerably powerful computer to run properly. However, the 128x version a little bit pales in comparison to the 1024x one. There is such a level of detail that pixels on textures are no longer observable. Every single texture on any object in the game is smooth and photorealistic. Such a level of realism was achieved by reworking and designing completely new textures. It is not enough to upscale existing resolutions. Many textures were created manually to ensure that they perfectly represent the vision of Aryan Nikose for the game. He added many new textures in the game such as new types of stone, wood, tools crates, sand and more. There are also new models for certain objects that have more polygons to make them more realistic. Things such as small rocks, leaves, grass, all have more polygons to make them appear considerably closer to reality. While there may not be much information available about the URBAN resource pack, the developer uses his official channels to communicate updates. He shares the progress of his work over Instagram and has a dedicated Patreon page for the URBAN resource pack. The 128x version of his resource pack is available for free. Higher resolution ones are available for author’s Patreon subscribers that is meant to support the creator continue his work on the resource pack. It is also on Patreon where the developer posts future updates and the latest version first.

URBAN
Yes, it is a requirement.
Heather Mitchell
what would the pack look like for the 128x?
Admin
Slightly more pixelated than the higher versions, but also with higher fps, especially if you have lower hardware.

some swords in 1.19.2 and 1.20 pack are missing

Great Urban/Modern texture packs. hadn’t had any issues except a few texture glitches. So far I’ve only seen the second half of the double chest and beds glitch out. like multiple textures combined, and the top of bed looks like wood making it look like a bench rather than a bed. That’s not the texture glitch but thought I’d bring it up since not sure if it was intentional or part of the glitch. Other than that the textures are perfect. Might be my favorite Urban TP.
PkWolf
Yep now even my inventory is back to vanilla and same with several items. this sucks I was really enjoying this texture pack. Also im up to date both on mc java and the texture pack in case yall were wondering.
URBAN
The chest and bed in URBAN are jem models and require optifine.

I really want to use this resource pack. However, I’m running it with the BSL shader (latest version) and there are so many glitches. For example, chunks just disappear or chunks render with no shader values and are flat colors. I’ve left everything alone with the shader packs, so I’m using out of the box values. Any ideas?

While most things look nice, the stone blocks are just horrendous looking. Bye bye pristine and nice looking Stone Bricks! Hello grimy dirt looking stones instead. And what is with the Chiselled Stone blocks? Horrible! Quite disappointing. I was hoping for some really nice and tidy stone blocks to use with this pack, too.
Shimi86
Just use the Deepslate tile or the smooth stone? The stone brick looks great for roads.
Minecraft
pls fix tree leaves. Very buggy with black collor particles.
is not cool

fixed!

The doors texture is messed up in 1.19.3 with Optifine (Pre3 -1.19.3) and BSL Shaders. So are the shovels and hoes. Is there a way to fix this?

I haven’t seriously played Minecraft since pre-1.14 and this was just what I needed to get back into the game, thank you so much <3 9/10
Two critiques, I can't run the god rays without getting a hazy pixelation around blocks in the path of the sunlight (which may be entirely due to my poor GPU), and more importantly the skybox glitches underwater which I cannot seem to find a fix for. Any ideas? Otherwise everything looks amazing and really brings a surprisingly immersive feel for a voxel-based game~
Vaina
Oh, I should mention I’m running it on 1.19.2 instead of .3 after noticing the same incompatibility errors that others were.
nutella
It’s not real, it’s much worse than it looks. don’t believe
Admin
It’s real if you installed it correctly. Don’t forget that you will need optifine and shaders with correct settings for this pack to work.
xN03L
is good or not?
Gamer001rGr
Is it compatible with Iris shaders (that thing similar to optifine) ?
Gary
Incompatible with latest update. 1.19.3
urbanfan
Using this on the 1.19.3 optifine HD U 12 pre2 – as it’s the newest optifine release, there is significant lag and I noticed the diamond Hoe textures are pink and black (incomplete).
I was previously using 1.19.2 optifine and it worked great, will switch back to the older version for now.
I will try the texture pack with the full optifine 1.19.3 release when it’s available.
Just wanted to make you aware that the pack may need updating to work properly and smoothly with 1.19.3.
Will be honest though this is definitely one of the best texture packs out there. It’s how Minecraft is supposed to look, keep up the fantastic work!
(using the x128 version)
URBAN
Hey sir, Will definately look into it.
Thanks for the review <3
