Simply Modern Resource Pack 1.11.2 / 1.10.2

When it comes to simple resource packs that advertise simplicity, it is understandable to be skeptical. Vanilla Minecraft is simple in terms of visuals. The texture resolution alone makes it extremely difficult to add more details. There is so much you can fit into a limited number of pixels and in vanilla, the resolution of textures is limited to 16x. When you hear that a resource pack aims to make the textures even simpler, you usually do not expect much. The Simply Modern resource pack falls into the category discussed above. It is a resource pack that advertises a more simplistic look to Minecraft. Surprisingly, it manages to make many aspects of the game better. It manages to improve the game while many similar resource packs failed while trying to do the same thing. Simply Modern first saw the light of day in early 2014 after being in development for a while. The original developer, known in the community as Harvey Coe or Coevex, made the resource pack improve Minecraft without upscaling texture resolutions. The goal was to make the game better and not sacrifice performance, thus negatively affecting gameplay. Since its release, the resource pack received several updates but they stopped after a couple of years. The resource pack still works with older versions of Minecraft. Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews and feedback from the community, Simply Modern did not get an impressive amount of downloads. Accurate estimation is around one hundred thousand downloads since release, spread across multiple websites where it has been published. The first thing that you notice when you load up Simply Modern is that textures have been stripped down. Almost all textures in the game have been redone so that they are simpler. This makes simple things such as leaves, grass, and different types of terrain much easier to distinguish.

Each type of terrain, block, and item in the game has carefully chosen colors for their textures to make them easier to distinguish one from another. Besides the various elements in the world receiving new textures, Simply Modern also touches upon the player GUI and menus. The inventory has a very minimalistic but modern design. Everything is easy to manage and things look more organized. The same has been done for the player HUD. Hit points are easier to distinguish and keep track of while the item slots are drawn to be as minimal as possible. To make better use of the new inventory design and player HUD, the icons in the game have been redesigned. They reflect the new textures and have a more simplistic aspect to them. This was done for all types of ores and blocks, food, craft items, weapons, armor, etc. Lastly, player textures were also changed. They are now much simpler. To a certain degree, players no longer look like humans but like brightly colored robots. This can be helpful, especially in PvP. What was not touched by the resource pack are the sky and water textures. If you want to improve those as well, you can experiment with different shader packs. The performance of the game is what most players are concerned about. This matters the most for PvP players where you do not want framerate drops or choppy gameplay. Fortunately, the Simply Modern resource pack is not taxing at all. Because it does not upscale the texture resolution to ridiculous levels and it does not introduce anything fancy such as dynamic textures, the resource pack does not affect game performance. This makes it an ideal choice for PvP players that want to play the game with a resource pack that will not cripple their systems. However, if you want to make the most out of the Simply Modern resource pack, you want to install a shader pack as well and that will drive your FPS down considerably. Installation is straightforward. Simply Modern can be installed manually, the traditional way.

Simply Modern should be compatible with all of these Minecraft versions: 1.11.2 - 1.11 - 1.10.2 - 1.10 - 1.9.4 - 1.9
